Ashford Concert Band ended 2019 with a spectacular Christmas Concert, raising thousands for charity in the process.
The sold-out St Mary the Virgin Church in Ashford town centre hosted the Band’s annual concert, which each year supports local charities chosen by band members. Proceeds from ticket sales, refreshments and a raffle were presented this week to representatives from Care for the Family, Crossroads Care Kent and The MS Society South East Kent.
The concert itself drew one of the largest audiences for a Christmas concert by the Band, with plenty of festive music, show tunes, music from the movies and singalongs to keep everyone entertained. Compered by Oz Hardwick and conducted by Anthony Thornton, the Band ran through its repertoire in indomitable style, treating the enthusiastic onlookers with festive pieces including The 12 Days of Christmas, Farandole and a selection from The Snowman, alongside The 3-Minute Nutcracker, selections from Mary Poppins Returns and Pixar Movie Magic, and saxophone section soli Midnight Soliloquy.
Plans are already in place for this year’s Christmas Concert, so make a note for Friday 18th December 2020 – ticket details will be released nearer the time.
